Statutory working hours
The law stipulates how long a working day may be. This means that an employee’s statutory working time may not exceed 8 hours per day. This does not include breaks. So if you start work at 8 am and take a 30-minute break, you can finish work at 4:30 pm.
Statutory working hours: rules
These working hours apply to all working days. This means that an employee may work a maximum of 48 hours according to the law.
There are exceptional cases in which the employer may extend the working day to 10 hours. This limit of 10 hours may never be exceeded. This results in a maximum weekly working time of 60 hours, as the week has 6 working days by law, including Saturday.
