Public holidays
Public holidays are not for working. Work is not permitted on these days. Accordingly, a basic rule applies here Employment ban. However, even in this case there are some exceptions, e.g. for nursing staff, public sector staff, etc. means of transportation or Fire department personnel.
The same employment bans apply on public holidays as for work on Sundays.
9 Uniform public holidays
There are a total of 9 public holidays that are uniformly regulated in all federal states:
- New Year
- Good Friday
- Easter Monday
- Ascension Day
- Whit Monday
- 1. May
- Day of the German Unity
- 1. & 2nd Christmas Day
