Data protection
Data protection is a collective term for the various laws that aim to protect the privacy of individuals in an increasingly automated and computer-based world.
Data protection aims to protect against unauthorized access from outside (this can be the state, but also another private person).
As people are often careless with their data on the Internet, there are various areas of attack such as viruses, Trojans, hacking and phishing.
Current discussions, such as nude scanning at airports, facial recognition at train stations and the recording of highway toll controls, also fall within the scope of data protection.
Data protection is just as important in companies, which is why there is an extra position for it: Data Protection Officer.
A data protection officer monitors compliance with data protection regulations. The area of responsibility includes
- Monitoring compliance with the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG)
- Monitoring of software used
- Training of employees
- may also have an advisory role in the selection of personnel
